Rochester Tuba Christmas
Sunday, December 15, 2024, 3-4 pm
100 tuba and euphonium players of all ages and abilities performing traditional Christmas carols with an enthusiastic audience sing-along. Back for the 41st year, you don't want to miss it!
TUBACHRISTMAS was started in 1974 by tuba great Harvey Phillips as a tribute to his mentor, the legendary tuba player and teacher William J. Bell. The first TUBACHRISTMAS took place in New York City's Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink, with music arranged by Rochester-born composer Alec Wilder.
2024 marks the 51st anniversary for TUBACHRISTMAS concerts, which are now presented in 290 cities worldwide. TUBACHRISTMAS was brought to Rochester in the early 1980s by local tuba player Joe Baker and his teacher,
Glenn K. Call, who conducted the event for over 30 years.
Previously held at Midtown Plaza and Hochstein Performance Hall, this longstanding holiday tradition now continues in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre.
